Action Alert: Attend Congressional Field Hearing in Fresno

Attend the Congressional Field Hearing in Fresno this Wednesday, March 19, 2014 and make your voice heard! The House Natural Resources Committee will hold a field hearing in Fresno, California on Wednesday, March 19th entitled “California Water Crisis and Its Impacts: The Need for Immediate and Long-Term Solutions.” The San Joaquin Valley is once again suffering from drought conditions exacerbated by unworkable federal regulations that put the needs of a 3-inch fish over people. The House of Representatives passed a bill (H.R. 3964) to help resolve this situation. That bill, along with another bill (S. 2016), is now pending in the U.S. Senate. Although Senate action hasn’t been announced on either bill, a number of House Members recently stated that [...]

Action Alert: Bus to Restore the Delta Rally in Fresno

Restore the Delta is providing a bus for our supporters to attend President Obama’s visit in Fresno on drought assistance on February 14, 2014. We will hold a press conference and rally near where the President will be speaking. This is not a protest because President Obama had said he will veto HR3964 (Valadao), the Delta pumping bill. Our goal is not to protest against the President, but to share with him and the national media the concerns of the Delta community. Our message is about Saving the Delta! Stopping the Tunnels! — protecting Delta farms, fisheries, the Bay-Delta estuary, and north coast rivers, and creating sustainable water policies for California. Signs expressing other concerns about President Obama’s positions are [...]

Action Alert: Tell Your Representatives to Oppose HR3964

Tell your congressional representatives to oppose HR3964, dangerous legislation being put forward by southern San Joaquin Valley congressmen using the drought as an excuse to play politics with California’s water management challenges. This bill by Representative David Valadao of Hanford is being described as an “Emergency Water Delivery Act,” ignoring the fact that there is no water to deliver and that they over pumped the Delta last year by 800,000 acre feet, when they should have been holding water for an extended dry period. Like similar legislation (HR1837) that died in the Senate two years ago, HR3964 would reduce water quality and water reliability for Delta communities and Delta farmers. According to Bill Jennings of the California Sportfishing Protection Alliance, [...]
