Summertime Action Alert: We Need Your Help!

Well the heat is on and everyone seems ready for a wet and wonderful summer. We hope you enjoy all the recreational activities the Delta has to offer!

So you don’t lose your edge during the dog days, we have a few simple summer vacation homework assignments for you.

  1. Photos!

If you are out in the Delta this summer, boating, fishing, or just enjoying the view, be on the lookout for algal blooms in the water.

Restore the Delta needs your photos of Delta algal blooms. We are collecting photos for a project that will help bring attention to this issue and generate action to fix the problem.

Please send your photos along with a date and location to admin@restorethedelta.org.  We need the date and location of when and where the photo was taken in order to identify hotspots. Without those details, it doesn’t help us.

  • Delta Anthology

The Delta Protection Commission is currently collecting historical and cultural materials on the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Selections and excerpts from these materials may be published in an anthology for high school and college readers as well as for those interested in learning more about this region’s rich culture and heritage.

They are collecting writing that represents the experiences of Native Americans, travelers and settlers, owners and workers, and rural and urban dwellers in the Delta from pre-1800 through the 21st century, including those which suggest alternative futures for the region.

If you know of manuscripts, citations, archives, or leads on materials that we can research, or would like further information regarding this project, email Carrie.Alexander@delta.ca.gov
