Environmental Coalition Will Hold Press Conference Outside Jeff Denham’s Modesto Office this Friday

WHAT: Press Conference

WHERE: Outside of Representative Jeff Denham’s Modesto Office, 4701 Sisk Rd. Suite 202, Modesto, CA 95356

WHEN: Friday, July 20, 2018 at 9 AM

This Friday, Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) will be hosting Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke in his district to “discuss the administration’s potential role in improving water infrastructure and protecting Valley water rights.”

Over the last two months, three riders have been introduced to the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act (H.R. 6147) that seek to upend legal protections for the Delta, and exempt state and federal water infrastructure projects from judicial review. The most recent provision added to the Appropriations bill was introduced by Rep. Denham this week, and aims to secure more water deliveries to the Central Valley, thereby undermining the State Water Board’s recent recommended updates for the Bay-Delta Plan.

In response, an environmental coalition consisting of Restore the Delta, Friends of the River, and Sierra Club will be hosting a press conference outside of Rep. Denham’s Modesto office at 9 AM to discuss how these riders are not only anti-environmental, but Un-American.

Though Rep. Denham claims that he is against the Delta tunnels, environmental groups are deeply concerned that Denham’s rider, Congressman Calvert’s pro-tunnels rider, and Congressman Valadao’s rider function as three-pronged approach to abolish water rights laws and protections for the Bay-Delta estuary.
