Federal Scientists Find Delta Tunnels Plan Will Devastate Salmon
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has released a draft biological opinion documenting the harm the tunnels would cause to salmon, steelhead, Delta and longfin smelt, other fish and wildlife species, and water quality.

“The scientists of the National Marine Fisheries Services use facts and data to guide their findings regarding the Delta Tunnels in the recently released Draft Biological Opinion.
“Restore the Delta and our coalition partners from throughout the California environmental water community has argued for years that the Delta Tunnels will destroy San Francisco Bay-Delta fisheries. Governor Jerry Brown and California Resources Secretary John Laird, however, have discounted our claims.
“With the growing list of water infrastructure projects that need repair as a result of years of neglect by water export agencies, made worse by recent storm damage, we call on Governor Brown to abandon this ill-conceived, expensive boondoggle once and for all. There is a better way to manage California’s water.”
