New figures say the true cost of building the twin tunnels to ship water to Central Valley farmers and Southern California cities would be more than double the current 25 billion dollar estimate. Earlier this month the California Resources Agency released the draft Bay Delta Conservation Plan. The thirty-four thousand page document details a plan touted to provide a reliable water supply for the state, while restoring the impaired ecosystem of the San Francisco Bay Delta. The centerpiece is a conveyance system of two giant tunnels to channel water under the Delta and into the state water infrastructure.
