“Over Troubled Waters” Documentary on Water Wars Recognized as Official Selection at Tiburon International Film Festival

Sausalito, CA – Over Troubled Waters (OTW), a documentary about the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, was screened Tuesday night in Sausalito as an official selection of the Tiburon International Film Festival (http://www.tiburonfilmfestival.com). The Festival seeks to provide a greater understanding of the world and its many cultures through the artistic medium of film.

Over Troubled Waters is the centerpiece of a public education effort to stop the building of peripheral tunnels.  In this visually rich documentary, Ed Begley Jr. narrates the story of how the people of the Delta are fighting to protect the region they love and to encourage saner, sustainable water policies for all the people of California.

“Restore the Delta is honored to be an official selection of the festival,” said Michael Frost, a Bay Area businessman and Restore the Delta (RTD) board member who represented RTD at the festival. “The Tiburon International Film Festival is one of many Bay Area showings of this film that will help inform our residents that the destruction of the San Francisco Bay Delta estuary would mean the destruction of our salmon fisheries, the loss of fresh water inflows essential to keep San Francisco Bay and our Pacific fisheries healthy. The future of the San Francisco Bay and the quality of life it provides is just as much at stake in this fight as is the future of the Delta.”

“This film is our chance to tell the real Delta story,” said Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla, executive director of RTD, which produced the documentary. “This film reveals how powerful forces are using fear of flooding and earthquakes to make a case for transforming a unique, beautiful, productive region into a permanent way station for water going somewhere else. They are trying to shore up an outdated water system with a massive, multi-billion dollar water transfer project that Californians will be paying for decades.”

Over Troubled Waters has also been recognized as an official selection of the 2013 Wild & Scenic Film Festival (http://www.wildandscenicfilmfestival.org), and NorCal Film Festival (http://www.norcalfilmfest.net/).  Over Troubled Waters was the winner of the Best Documentary Short at the 2012 Nevada Film Festival (http://www.nevadafilmfestival.com/) and a designated participant at the 9th Annual Artivist Film Festival (www.ARTIVIST.com).
