Rally in response to the Governor’s Announcement to Build the Canal!

Dear Friends,

We understand that Governor Brown will be making an announcement on July 25th, 2012 with Secretary Ken Salazar from the Department of the Interior on Brown’s plan to build the peripheral canal/tunnel.

Please join us for our response to his announcement with your homemade signs on the West Steps of the Capitol at noon on  Wednesday, July 25, 2012.

Governor Brown’s plan, an enormous mistake, would exterminate salmon runs, destroy sustainable Delta family farms and saddle taxpayers with tens of billions in debt, mainly to benefit a small number of huge corporate agribusinesses on the west side of the Central Valley.

Ironically, we anticipate that he will try to sell his plan to California water rate payers and tax payers as a new “process” to save and restore the Delta.  Join us as we let him know that the best way to restore the Delta is to fix the levees, reduce water exports, restore flows through the Delta, and support water projects throughout California that will make all regions water self sufficient.

Featured speakers:

U.S. Rep. John Garamendi; Sen. Lois Wolk; Assemblymember Bill Berryhill; Mayor Ann Johnston, Stockton; Jim Metropulos, Sierra Club; Jonas Minton, Planning and Conservation League; Zeke Grader, Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen’s Associations; Bill Jennings, California Sportfishing Protection Alliance; Kristin Lynch, Food & Water Watch;Nick di Croce, Environmental Water Caucus; Conner Everts, Southern California Watershed Alliance; John Herrick, South Delta Water Agency

Why do you People think that you can, “play God,” and change what The Great Mystery(Creator) has made… change it and you HURT The Mother Earth who nurtures us and gives us Life?!?!
Cease and desist , I say… leave our Mother Earth alone! Water is the Life-Blood that flows through Her veins!

I manage Tiki Lagun and I think what your planning is a big mistake considering we are already in debt why would you add insult to injury. You folks are not playing fair you plan meeting when the people that are concerned about this are working and can not voice their opinions in the matter. Oh, silly me that is why you do that. I will be attending that meeting with many others.

Hi Barbara, just a note to let you know I will be there tomorrow. Not looking for opportunity to speak but if you’re putting out information on who is in opposition to Governor’s plan, you can put my name and county down. Thanks.

GREAT turnout at the rally today. It would be great to have a list of the speakers posted.
We cannot allow the canal because it will turn our great Sacramento river into Sacramento creek.
