Water exporters don’t want you to know the cost of the peripheral canal!

Dear Friends,

Tuesday morning at the Assembly Water, Parks, and Wildlife Hearing, this committee will decide if AB 2421 (Berryhill), a costs benefit analysis for the peripheral canal, will move forward throughout the legislative process.

The water export users listed below say that a cost benefit analysis of the proposed project would actually interfere with obtaining the co-equal goals of Delta restoration and water supply reliability.

Their argument — that knowing the true costs of such a water project could threaten the goals of ecosystem restoration and reliable water supplies – literally and figuratively, does not hold water unless, as we suspect, the costs outweigh the benefits!

Why wouldn’t Californians want to know the real cost to tax payers and water rate payers of the largest proposed public works water project in California history?

This is why we are asking our supporters to attend tomorrow’s hearing to show your support for a cost benefit analysis of the proposed peripheral canal/tunnel. Tax payers and water rate payers have a right to know the true economic and environmental costs of the Bay Delta Conservation Plan.

Assembly Water, Parks & Wildlife Committee Hearing;Room 437, State Capitol

WHEN: Tuesday, April 24, 2012; Special Order at 9:00 am

AB 2421 and AB 2000, two important Delta related bills, will be heard early on during this quick moving hearing process, allowing supporters to then get on with the remainder of their daily activities.

Thank you for standing up for the Delta!

Yours in Service,

Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla

Restore the Delta
