UPDATED: Two important pieces of legislation are currently making their way through the legislature.

Dear friends,

Two important pieces of legislation are currently making their way through the legislature.

AB 2421 (Berryhill) calls for the Legislative Analyst’s Office to conduct a cost benefit analysis prior to the construction of the peripheral canal.

AB 1813 (Buchannan) calls for the establishment of flow criteria new flow criteria established by the State Water Resources Control Board to ensure that there is no degradation in water quality in Delta channels and to include flows into, within, and out of the Delta to replicate conditions that existed when local and anadromous fish populations were at healthy and self-sustaining levels.

We are asking our supporters to write two simple letters supporting these bills to the Chair of the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee, Honorable Jared Huffman.

Examples of the letters can be found below.  Please feel free to edit/personalize these letters.

You can fax your letter to Assembly Member Jared Huffman, (916) 319-2106, and you should send a snail mail copy as well.

Thank you for your support.

Yours in service,

Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla

Dear Chairman Huffman:

I am writing on behalf of the over 7000 members of Restore the Delta. We urge you tosupport AB 1813 (Buchannan). This bill would require “the new flow criteria established by the State Water Resources Control Board to ensure that there is no degradation in water quality in Delta channels and to include flows into, within, and out of the Delta to replicate conditions that existed when local and anadromous fish populations were at healthy and self-sustaining levels.” We believe that re-establishing adequate flows into and out of the Delta is essential for restoration of our fisheries and for the protection of the estuary.

Moreover, AB 1813 would require the Delta Stewardship Council to receive the flow determinations of the State Water Resources Control Board before it considers the Bay Delta Conservation Plan. We believe that flow determinations must be considered when evaluating the Bay Delta Conservation Plan.

For these reasons, we support AB 1813 and would greatly appreciate your assistance in this legislative effort.

Sincerely,

Dear Chairman Huffman:

I am writing on behalf of the over 7000 members of Restore the Delta.  We urge you to support AB 2421 (Berryhill). During these difficult economic times, we believe that it is imperative for legislators, state agencies, and Californians to know the real costs of the proposed conveyance project – if for nothing else other than adequate financial planning for state budgeting purposes.

Moreover, we believe that water rate payers throughout the state have the right to know about any and all anticipated water bill increases — if only for household budget planning.

For these reasons, we support AB 2421 and would greatly appreciate your assistance in this legislative effort.

Sincerely,

Your name
