Re: Support for San Joaquin River Restoration Agreement
Dear Senator Feinstein, Congressman Radanovich, Congressman Pombo, and Congressman Cardoza:
We are very grateful for the leadership you and other Congressional leaders have shown in supporting talks between the parties that led to this historic agreement. We now urge you to move quickly to help pass the necessary legislation as agreed to by all settling parties
The restoration of the San Joaquin will provide far reaching environmental, water quality and water management benefits. Of particular interest are the potential benefits to the Delta, which, as you know, has suffered an unprecedented biological decline in recent years.
We are aware that there are a few third party interests opposed to restoration actively lobbying to make changes to this carefully crafted settlement agreement. It is our understanding that the Settlement as lodged with the Court last week is the product of Letter to Senate and Congress on SJ Restoration, September 19, 2006 nearly a year of intense negotiations by all three parties, and that parties have worked hard throughout this process to address to the greatest extent possible the concerns of all third party interests. This hard work has paid off, in the form of remarkably broad support for this restoration agreement. We strongly encourage you to support this Settlement and its provisions as they now stand, and allow this exciting restoration effort to get underway with all possible speed.
Sincerely yours,
Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla
