ACTION ALERT:  Santa Clara County, It’s time to call your board reps and Mayor Liccardo

ACTION ALERT:
Santa Clara County, It’s time to call your board reps and Mayor Liccardo

You have written comments, shown up to meetings, and spoken before the board. Now it’s time to flood Santa Clara Valley Water District and the office of Mayor Sam Liccardo with phone calls expressing your opposition to the Delta tunnels before SCVWD revisits their vote on May 8, at 9:30am.

Here’s how to make sure your message is counted at SCVWD:

  • Call the SCVWD office at (408) 265-2600 and ask that the operator take a message and forward that message to your district official. Make sure you call before 5PM when the office closes.
  • Keep it short and sweet, explaining why you oppose the Delta Tunnels project and why it does not make sense for Santa Clara County
  • Politely ask the operator to read your message back to you
  • Make sure to provide the operator your first and last name, your city of residence, zip code, and board representative

How to find your SCVWD board representative:

  • Go to the SCVWD zone map
  • In the top right-hand corner, enter your address. When the map zooms in to pinpoint your location, click once on the color block and it will display the name of your board representative.

It is most important that SCVWD ratepayers call; however, we believe that Delta and Bay Area residents should also weigh in because we are a region tied together by our common watershed.

Plus, any board members with future political ambitions should know how the public feels about the project. In particular please weigh in with Director Keegan, Director Kremen, and Director Estremera.

It is important to note that Directors Estremera, Kremen, Varela, and LeZotte are up for re-election this year.

In addition, it is also important that the Mayor of San Jose, Sam Liccardo knows that his constituents oppose the Delta Tunnels and are disappointed by his expressed support of the project.

Here’s how to make sure your message is counted at Mayor Liccardo’s office:

  • Call Mayor Liccardo’s office at (408) 535-4800. In the event of a full voicemail box, ask the operator to take a message to be forwarded to Mayor Liccardo
  • Keep it short and sweet, explaining why you oppose the Delta Tunnels project, why it does not make sense for Santa Clara County. Make sure you also express your disappointment with his support for the project
  • Politely ask the operator to read your message back to you
  • Make sure to provide the operator your first and last name, your city of residence and zip code

Similar to the four board members listed above, Mayor Liccardo is also up for re-election this year.

Please keep your remarks professional and courteous. We passionately disagree on the project, but we respect all our neighbors. We are in the moral right regarding the tunnels, and we need to conduct ourselves in accordance with our morally-centered position.

We have just four days to get our messages to the SCVWD board of directors and Mayor Liccardo.

Thank you for your continued advocacy.

Yours in Service,

Restore the Delta
